Grimes Reveals Song She Wrote For Rihanna

(Radio.com) Rihanna gets plenty of solicitations from songwriters to write songs for her - she's had Sia, Calvin Harris, Dr. Luke and many more in her corner. Add Grimes to that mix, except Rihanna didn't actually use her song. But that doesn't mean it never saw the light of day.

Yesterday (June 26), the electronic artist revealed "Go," a song she originally wrote with the Barbadian pop star in mind but was eventually turned down. The song has since been repurposed for use by Grimes herself and premiered today on BBC Radio 1.

Though Grimes and Rihanna come from different sides of the spectrum when it comes to vocals, it's fairly clear that "Go" was written for Rihanna in mind - the vocal remains in a lower, almost sultry tone on the verses rather than explore any vocal aerobatics, and there's an underlying electronic feel that permeates much of the singer's more recent material.

The song might end up working out for Grimes anyway - look at "Chandelier," Sia's current buzz hit, which was originally penned for Rihanna as well. Apparently she has some pretty high standards lately.
