Rush Classic Performed On American Idol
. The 22-year old, one of the 12 finalists, performed the song "Working Man" from Rush's self-titled debut, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this month and the track received national attention as part of a recent Walmart commercial. Johnson had the following to say in the intro to his performance, "It's my favorite band of all time and I just want to put a little bit of my flavor onto one of my favorite songs of all time." He then delivered his rendition of the song with a voice that was powerful, yet soulful and reminiscent of the late Ray Gillen of Badlands and Black Sabbath fame. Johnson won over the judges last week with his performance of "Pressure & Time," the title track to the acclaimed album from Long Beach rockers Rival Sons. Check out his Rush cover here.
