Third Person Dies From SXSW Hit and Run

(Radio.com) A third person has died in result of the South by Southwest car crash that took place last Thursday (March 13.) According to The Austin American Statesman, Sandy Le, who was listed to be in critical condition since Thursday, passed away this morning (March 17) at University Medical Center Brackenridge.

The Austin resident was one of 21 other people injured when a car driven by Rashad Owens of Killeen, TX, drove the wrong way on 9th Street in downtown Austin, striking those standing outside the Mohawk nightclub.

It was reported that the car blew through police barricades and struck several people who were outside of the venue with witnesses at the scene saying that the car could have been going as fast as 70 mph.

The other two victims were Steven Craenmehr, 35, of the Netherlands, who served as creative director for the agency Massive Music and Jamie Ranae West, 27, a local Austin resident who was riding on the back of a moped driven by her husband. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Owens, 21, has formally been charged with one count of capital murder and is currently in the Travis County Jail with bail set at $3 million. more on this story
