Eric Church Explains What It Takes To Be A Real Bad*ss

05/22/2014
.
(Radio.com) The mirrored sunglasses. The no-holds-barred lyrics and unapologetic country-meets-heavy metal musical style. Eric Church is kind of a bad*ss. But what, to him, is bad*ss? You might be surprised.

"I don't know that there's anything more bad*ss than trying to be a good dad" he told us in an interview this week on KNCI. "In this day and age, that's the craziest thing you can do." The father of one (Boone, age two) says that while everybody else is trying out-party each other, being a dad and "…being real…is the most outlaw thing you can do."

Eric does not suffer fools. If he doesn't like something, or someone, or YOU, he'll pretty much say so. So Pat and I were grateful that we were able to spend seven whole minutes talking to him, touching on everything from counter-balancing the influence of Tom and Jerry cartoons on his son ("we're chasin' it with the Berenstain Bears) to his upcoming appearance at Bottlerock in Napa on June 1st ("Napa Valley, wine…beautiful time of year. It wasn't hard to say yes," he chuckled).

His latest album, The Outsiders, has already yielded one top five hit, "My Hometown" and has received critical acclaim from publications as diverse as Country Weekly and Rolling Stone. Eric said he had 121 songs written for the CD. Will any of them see the light of day? And what does he think of a comparison between 70s rock albums and his current CD? Hear the whole interview and find out here.
