Garth Brooks Making Friends In New Places

(Radio.com) When Garth Brooks retired back in 2001, Twitter didn't exist, nor did Facebook. The music industry and Internet are completely different worlds than they were back then - but on the day Man Against Machine was released, Brooks' first new album in 13 years, the country star decided to join the conversation.

He took to Facebook first. "Ready to make some #FriendsInNewPlaces," he said to the Facebook world with a 45-second video on his new Facebook page.

"Well, I guess it's official," he said in the video. "We're now on Facebook. I really wasn't sure about this at the start but then a friend of mine said something that just made all kinds of sense.

"She said, 'Think of it more as a conversation.' I like that. But I'm already finding out on my own that it's wiping out the walls between you and me and I really like that. It allows us into each other's worlds, I guess in my case: the hotel room. When I think of things I want to post, I want to post cool stuff, slick stuff, neat stuff. But most of the stuff I'm going to post is going to be raw stuff, like this. 'Cause this is just who I am. So if this is just a conversation, then I say let the conversation begin."

Hours after he posted his first video on Facebook, he also opened a Twitter account and posted a selfie before joining in a Twitter chat. Later, he'd post his first Vine as well with some help.
