Ancient Swamp Creature Named After Mick Jagger
. Jaggermeryx naida, which translates to "Jagger's water nymph," was a mix between a hippo and a long-legged pig, according to Phys.org. As for its facial similarity? "The animal probably had a highly innervated muzzle with mobile and tactile lips, thus the Jagger reference," said Duke University paleontologist and study co-author Gregg Gunnell. "It may have used its sensitive snout to forage along river banks, scooping up plants with its lower teeth and large lips," co-author Ellen Miller added. The extinct animal's fossils were reportedly found scattered around catfish, turtles, waterbirds and crocodile poop at a remote site in the Egyptian desert. More details here.
