Taylor Swift Vs Artist Copyright Dispute Heats Up
. It all began in October of 2014, when Swift posted an image of what she believed to be a painting from a fan, which included Swift's songs lyrics. Turns out the image was actually a creation of artist Ally Burguieres and was passed off by a fan as original. Burguiers demanded that the image be removed from social media. Swift took down the image after some time and later offered compensation, which according to Burguiers, came with a stipulation that some of the money must be donated to charity. A representative for Swift is now firing back. Team Swift now says there was no requirement at all for her to donate the money to charity and brushes the artist off as someone looking to milk the experience for publicity. "Notwithstanding the huge publicity this has generated for Ms. Burguieres and her store, in early November, Ms. Swift's office made a fair offer of payment well above a reasonable licensing fee for the short time that the fan art was posted online," the rep tells Rolling Stone. The rep went on to say that they tried to get to the bottom of a fair rate but was not getting feedback from the artist. "We have tried on multiple occasions to address Ms. Burguieres' concerns, but these actions make it clear to us that this is just an unfortunate effort to extract more money and more publicity." For her part, Burguieres issued a statement that claims Swift's camp did not want to credit her work as an artist and it was unfair to ask her to donate the "four figure" offer to charity.
