John Mayer Jams With Grateful Dead's Bob Weir on 'Late Late Show'
. (Radio.com) John Mayer got to show both sides of his public persona as a guest host of CBS's Late Late Show last week. On one hand, he reminded us that he's a guy who dates the biggest celebs, when he interviewed the shark dancers from his ex-girlfriend Katy Perry's Super Bowl halftime show performance. And on the other hand, he also pointed out his skills as a top notch guitarist last night, when he jammed with the Grateful Dead's Bob Weir to close out the show with a performance of the Grateful Dead's "Althea," joined by the Dead's Bob Weir. A Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter composition from the band's 1980 album Go To Heaven (the one that saw the band decked out in all white disco-era suits, a few years too late), it was an unusual, but very Dead-like, choice. Mayer seemed content to let Weir take vocals; the host paid tribute to Garcia via his always-fluid and smooth lead guitar skills. Watch it here.
