The Yardbirds Reunite With Original Guitarist
. (Gibson) Ask any rock aficionado to name The Yardbirds' former guitarists and they'll almost surely recite the great triumvirate of Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. Fact is, however, the band's very first player was a young lad named Top Topham. Topham was just 16 when the band formed in 1963, and under pressure from his parents, he soon dropped out of the group to pursue an arts education. Now, beginning April 3, a retooled edition of The Yardbirds is set to play several dates with Topham in tow. Rounding out the group are founding drummer Jim McCarty, bassist Kenny Aaronson, blues harpist/vocalist Myke Scavone and singer/guitarist John Idan. Seven dates have been scheduled thus far, all in the Northeast. See the dates here. Gibson.com is an official news provider for antiMusic.com.
