R5 Scraped New Album Before Recording 'Sometime Last Night'
. But as singer/rhythm guitarist Ross Lynch says, "We actually had a second album planned, ready to go, [it was] mastered and everything. But it wasn't quite right, it just didn't fit us personally. So we went to the label and we were like, 'Let's scrap it all, and we're gonna write a new one.' So we would write a song, and if it was better than one that we had on a previous record, [we'd use it]. We kept writing and crossing older songs off, and sooner or later, we had Sometime Last Night." "Going into the label," Ross says, "And telling them we wanted to scrap the old record and start a new one wasn't exactly the smoothest process. It had been building up in my conscience for a long time." "It was a high risk/high reward kind of thing, because if it sucked, it was totally on us," Bassist Riker Lynch notes. "But if it was great, then, great! We did it! And I truly do think it's great, I think it speaks for itself, it stands on its own, whether you're a fan or not a fan, if you give the album a chance, you're gonna love it." Read more here.
