. Now in its 36th year, the American Book Award recognizes literary excellence without being bound by category. Winners range from well-known and established writers to under-recognized authors and first works. Published last year, Santana's memoir charts his journey from playing bars as a teen in Tijuana to his emergence as a pioneering recording artist.
