(Radio.com) R&B star R.K elly recently performed at the Chicago Theater at a benefit concert that honored his mentor Lena McLin. Kelly told Chicago Sun-Times, "On the first day I met her, Ms. McLin told me, 'You're going to be one of the greatest singers, songwriters and performers of all time.' I thought the lady was crazy."

The R&B star recalls the first day of school where McLin made him come to the front of the class to sing 'You Are So Beautiful." She then forced him to be in the upcoming talent show where he performed Stevie Wonder's hit, 'Ribbon In The Sky."

Kelly learned that the 87 year old McLin, who is retired, was having financial difficulty keeping her longtime apartment, which is being converted into condos, and which she couldn't afford on her teachers pension. So he scheduled a Chicago stop specifically for the benefit concert to raise funds. Thanks to that show (which took place October 14), and a GoFundMe campaign, Kelly says that McLin can now buy her condo. Read more here.
