Paris Jackson Defends Kanye West Amid Chart Record Backlash
. ![]()
(Radio.com) Kanye West has overtaken Michael Jackson's spot in the pop chart record books after landing his fortieth Top 40 slot, with his feature on ScHoolboy Q's "That Part." The news infuriated some of Jackson's fans, but not Jackson's daughter Paris Jackson, who took to social media to respond to the haters. "The first time I ever heard Kanye's [808s and] Heartbreak album was from my dad," wrote Paris. "He played it for me all the time. He liked him. He never saw music as a competition or a game." With 40 songs or lead features on songs having charted in the Billboard Hot 100, Kanye is now one slot ahead of Jackson and Frankie Valli, reports NME. Elvis Presley remains the king of the charts, however, with 80 Top 40 songs. In her post, Paris wrote that her dad was a music fan first and foremost and never wasted time being negative about other musicians. "[He] Never had a motive to talk s- about other artists," she wrote. "It was always about the love and respect and appreciation for music. So if someone breaks a new record be happy for them. They worked hard for it and they earned it. Don't be angry or jealous or bias. Music is music and if it's good it deserves recognition." Read Paris Jackson's complete post here.
