Anvil Frontman Hopes To Play Until He Dies

(Classic Rock) Anvil frontman Steve 'Lips' Kudlow says he has no plans to call time on the band and insists they've never been busier. Asked whether he feels interest in the group had waned in the years since the initial buzz that was created by 2008 documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil, Lips insists the work hasn't dried up and there's no sign of that ever happening.

He tells The Metal Voice: "The interest has not changed. In fact, more people have seen the movie since. We have an endless amount of work out there. Theoretically, we are going to be playing until I die. I can make a living playing in Anvil for the rest of my life."

The band release their 16th album Anvil Is Anvil on February 26 via SPV/Steamhammer. It sees them working with bassist Chris Robertson for the first time, after he replaced Sal Italiano in 2014.

On the reasons behind Italiano's departure, Lips adds: "It was made obvious to Sal we didn't need him anymore. On the last tour he did we brought Chris with us just to be the roadie. Chris was doing sound checks and it sounded better than it did with Sal and Sal felt like, 'What the f*** am I am doing here?' At the end of the tour, he quit.

"You gotta understand, we hired Sal in an emergency. So we hired an old friend and it wasn't a permanent situation. Rehearsing without a bass player is no fun. Sal lived in New York which is too far to rehearse. So we no choice but to get a bass player in Canada." Watch the full interview here.
