Demi Lovato Says She Didn't 'Shade' Taylor Swift

(Radio.com) In the wee hours of Sunday morning (Feb. 21), Demi Lovato took to Twitter to discuss her dissatisfaction with how women in the music industry are treated. While she never mentions Kesha directly, the tweets seem to be prompted by situation the singer is going through after a court ordered that she will not be let out of her contract with Dr. Luke, despite allegations that he drugged and raped her.

The following day, Lovato followed up with a tweet saying, "Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I'll be impressed."

Fans on social media, immediately began suggesting that Lovato was calling out Taylor Swift for donating $250,000 to Kesha. In a post that has now been marked as private, Us Weekly reports that Lovato responded to the Instagram account ProudofSwift, writing:

"How the f-k am I making this about myself? At least I'm talking about it. Not everyone has 250k to just give to people. Would love to but I didn't grow up with money and def haven't made as much as her. At least I speak up about s-t that's uncomfortable to talk about rather than trying to be politically correct 24/7."

"There's no 'rivalry'. I just give more f-s than other people and would rather start a dialogue ABOUT WOMEN COMING FORWARD ABOUT BEING RAPED than throw money at one person."

"Didn't shade Taylor," she concluded. "If you take it that way than fine. I'm just tired of seeing women use 'women empowerment' and 'feminism' to further brands without actually being the ones that have the uncomfortable conversations." Read the tweets here.
