Ace Frehley Recruits Paul Stanley, Slash For New Album (Top Story)
. The new effort will be released on April 15th and feature covers of the songs that inspired the guitarist including tracks from Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Steppenwolf, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, Thin Lizzy, Free and more. He also includes three covers of KISS tracks. Frehley reached out to his former KISS bandmate Paul Stanley to provide vocals on the cover of Free's "Fire and Water," and the guitarist tells Rolling Stone that the media has made more of the differences between him and Stanley than there actually is. "We've always been friends," he told the publication. "The press seems to amplify negativity. I guess it makes good copy." Ace went on to describe how the new collaboration with Stanley came about. "I thought Paul did a fabulous vocal on it. He jumped at the chance to do this because it's something that's outside of KISS and his character in KISS, and it gave him a chance to, you know, sing. "With Paul, you usually think of him singing in a slightly higher register and on 'Fire and Water,' he's singing deep from his diaphragm, and it's a real cool vocal. Everyone's who heard it was just thinks it's the sh*t." Stanley commented about the collaboration in a separate interview with KBAD via UCR: "For all of the bickering, and stuff we may say about each other, we go back to a very magical time. We started this together. In spite of what we may say from time to time, or things that get blown up, we are a family - a dysfunctional one, but nonetheless a family." - See the full guest and tracklisting here.
