Singled Out: The Inoculated Canaries06-10-2019
New York rockers The Inoculated Canaries lead guitarist and vocalist Mike Rubin tells us the story behind their recently released single "The Lawyer's Wife". Here is the story: When you've been awake for longer than 24 hours, you become a much more honest person. I was on hour 37 with a friend of mine when he started talking about how messed up his family was. His mother was a prominent fashion designer for Valentino in the 1980s. On the way back from an industry party, she overdosed on cocaine in the back of a limousine. She decided to give up the fashion lifestyle, and settled down with an Amish lawyer in rural Maine. 8 years later, she caught him having the time of his life between the sheets with a sixteen year old girl. I had the chord progression for this tune for about 6 months before I actually wrote any lyrics. After hearing all of these crazy stories about his mom, I had the words to The Lawyer's Wife written in their final form within 15 minutes. Originally the song was transposed down a whole step and at a much slower tempo. The key and tempo change were kind of a last minute decision in the studio. Frankly, I think it was the right decision. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself right here!
