After a long seven year absence Guns N Roses returned to the stage at 3:30am Jan 1st at the House of Blues in Las Vegas. The latest incarnation of the rock supergroup played mostly music from the chart topping debut Appetite for Destruction, but treated fans to a preview of five new songs that will appear on the forthcoming Chinese Democracy album.
In true Guns N Roses fashion the show was delayed a couple of hours, but according to fan reports, the crowd forgot about the inconvenience once the band finally hit the stage at 3:30am with a rendition of Welcome to the Jungle. Guitarist Buckethead donned a KFC bucket as a hat and a phantom of the opera style face mask through the entire show.
Some fans are reporting across the net that the new songs received a lukewarm reception, while the GNR classics like 'You Could Be Mine, It's So Easy, Sweet Child O' Mine, Nightrain, Mr Brownstone, November Rain, Patience, Live And Let Die and My Michelle brought the crowd to their feet. The new songs included Chinese Democracy, The Blues, Silk Worms, Oklahoma and Oh My God.
The current GNR lineup includes Axl Rose
as the only remaining original member with the exception of Keyboardist
Dizzy Reed who played with an earlier incarnation of the group, the rest
of the group are newcomers to the GNR fold. Rounding out the latest lineup
are guitarist Buckethead, Brian Mantia (Primus) on Drums, Robin Fink (Nine
Inch Nails) on guitar, Tommy Stinson (Replacements) on bass, and Chris
Pitman (Replicants) on guitar.
