The Metallica and Ja Rule collaboration, We Did It Again will hit stores a lot earlier than expected. Instead of the anticipated 2003 release date the song will be in stores on July 16th as part of the new compilation album titled "Swizz Beatz Presents G.H.E.T.T.O. Stories" which also features tracks from Busta Rhymes, Shyne, LL Cool J, Eve, Noreaga and more.

This pairing may appear like strange bed-fellows but Metallica seems enthusiastic about the collaboration. The chart topping metal band Posted the following on their website to enlighten their diehard fans about their experimentation with rap-metal, Swizz Beatz explains how the unlikely pair hooked up: I knew I wanted to do a rock n roll track and I knew I wanted to get the biggest act possible to do it, but I never thought in a million years that Id be working with Metallica on this. They had two songs already that I really liked. I took those and combined them into one song. Then I called Ja Rule and told him I needed him to be on what could be the biggest song of his career. I told him to guess who hed be working with on it and he was naming all these people he thought it was and finally, I said, "Its Metallica," and he said, "Hell yeah!" This song is a blessing. When people hear it, they wont believe it!"

The Metallica.com post continues with this quote from Lars Ulrich, "Ive never heard anything quite like that. It sits in a different place than anything else Ive heard. Ive never heard anything that sits right where this sits and thats pretty cool." The other members seem equally enthusiastic about the new direction their music is taking, Kirk Hammett also had a fine old time, enthusiastically describing the final song as unique, whilst James Hetfield said, I think they did a great job. There were riffs I had heard before somewhere, he added, smiling, and I think the song is really cool and different, extremely different."

So are we hearing the first rumblings of a new musical direction for Metallica? Will James soon be exchanging his cries of  Master! for Bling-Bling?  Only time will tell but you can hear the unusual track when the album hits stores on July 16th.
