NSyncs Lance Bass held a news conference last Friday (5-31) to announce that he had passed the required medical tests and physical for a space launch and is one step closer to realizing his dream of being a rocket man or is it rocket boy? | .... | "Lance Bass is one step closer to realizing his dream of being a rocket man or is it rocket boy" |
Bass has now been officially cleared for space travel by the Russian Institute of Biomedical Problems but still has two major obstacles to overcome if he is to go into space later this year, the money and more importantly the clearance of the Russian Aerospace Agency, who would have to approve the trip.
The money shouldnt be a problem for Bass, he is already well underway to raising the required $14-$20 million needed. During his press conference he announce his first sponsor for the trip, Radio Shack. And it appears one network is willing to help foot the bill in exchange for filming Lances adventure for a prime time reality television special (or series, it was unclear at press time). David Kreiff of Destiny Productions, who is working as Basss agent in setting up this excursion told CNN last week that the deal with a network is in the works and the money is already in an escrow account. So it appears that all that stands in Basss way is the Russian Aerospace Agency, who need to sign off on the deal if Bass is to be the third tourist to rent a seat on the Russian space craft following American Dennis Tito and South African Mark Shuttleworth who rented spots on two previous Russian space missions.
"As a kid, that's all I wanted to do was be an astronaut," if selected Bass will be able to make that dream come true in October. And to the boyband haters out there, no the Russians are not going to leave him in space no matter how nicely you ask!
