It sounds like something out of Spinal Tap but it appears to be real. Metallicas Kirk Hammett was stabbed by a surfboard, his own board in fact.

Metal news site Blabbermouth and Metallicas online club Intersandman.com reports that last Saturday, Kirk Hammett was stabbed by his board after he was tossed from a wave while surfing. Hammett suffered a cut under his armpit that required 6 stitches. Because of his injuries he will not be able to play guitar for the next couple of weeks but apparently in what Blabbermouth refers to as a joke, Hammett has offered to sing, play percussion, tambourine or a little piano during the songwriting and recording sessions for the group's forthcoming CD.

As we reported a few months ago former Alice in Chains/ Ozzy Osbourne bass player Mike Inez appears to be the leading candidate to replace Jason Newsted. While nothing official has been announced, the band stating that producer Bob Rock was handling bass duties on the new CD, Intersandman.com reports that Mike Inez has been spotted in the studio with the band.

antiMUSIC ran into Mike at a show in Hollywood a few months back, shortly after his friend and former bandmate Randy Castillo was lost to cancer. We asked Mike if he was in Metallica and he dodged the question and understandably at that time said that he just lost a good friend and thats what he was dealing with at the mement and as far as playing with Metallica he said, no he wasnt but he had a few things pending and none of them were solid at that point so he couldnt comment on any of them. So he left the door open to the possibility and now it appears he has in fact been in the studio with the group as they record their new album.

On the funnier side of things, Intersandman.com reports that possible titles of the new CD include, 'Floods of Vomit,' 'Surfing the Zeitgeist,' 'Butchered,' 'Sarcasm with Meaning,' 'Not/Ain't Askared No More,' 'Old, Ugly, Nasty,' and 'Best Dressed Chicken In Town'.  The site is careful to point out that the album titles came a news report from Metallica Fan Clubs Jump In The Studio video updates and  should be noted all the newsworthy items were very tongue in cheek.  In other words, dont count on those titles making the final cut.
