Multi-award winning cooperative See Your Shadow recently released the new single "Another Saturday" and to celebrate we asked Artistic Director Michael Coleman, who writes and produces all of the music in See Your Shadow, to tell us about the song. Here is the story:
"Another Saturday", along with all of the other songs See Your Shadow creates is layered in depth and emotion. I actually wrote the song many years ago and it remained in the catalog. Most of my songs, I write out long hand in a little book, and I was going through the book recently and revisiting the older work, and the song still captivated me.
The original iteration of the song was written more like a poem in its structure and meter, and I decided to change a few things to make the piece stronger. The interesting thing about "Another Saturday", like a lot of my other work, I can't even tell you what inspired me to write it. Inspiration just hits and then the pen just flows on the paper.
Now looking back and revisiting this piece again, I think it works because anybody could be plugged into the life of the protagonist as loneliness is something we all experience and that is what makes the song so universally appealing.
No matter who or what you are or where you are from, the song, "Another Saturday" speaks about a human experience and having a man tell the story of this woman just adds to the power of the piece.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen and watch for yourself below and learn more here
