Singled Out: Silver Cave's Guillotine

Silver Cave just released their "Kindness Is An Art' EP and to celebrate we asked Trent Rowland to tell us about the song "Guillotine." Here is the story:

This is a song that I've had around for many years now. It tells a fictional story about a prisoner condemned to public execution who hopes to exact his revenge on the ruler that wronged him. It's a REAL journey of a track and one of the more unique songs I've ever written in my Silver Cave career.

Originally, I thought of it as more of a metaphor for an arts industry that always feels like it wants you to be a certain way, or wants you to do certain things. And while those themes of forging your own path are there, it is, at its core, an anti-revenge song. Revenge is something that I explore quite a bit on this EP. I try to land on how we can channel our rage, as justified as it sometimes can be, into action that leads from the best parts of our heart. I mean it when I say that kindness is an art. It is WORK to be a good person. And I hope we all do what we can to better ourselves in that way.
