(Orienteer) New Jersey-born, New York-based singer-songwriter and producer James Ivy announces his headline North American tour with stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, his hometown of NY and more.
The announcement comes on the heels of his debut album The Seams out now via FADER Label. Built from a deliberately restrained palette of guitars, live drums, strings, and a vintage DX7 synthesizer, The Seams embraces imperfection, allowing space, texture, and vulnerability to take center stage. The monotony of making an album over two years subconsciously comes through in songs about immobility and frustration, loitering in your own mind, being caught in a loop. What's left is James at his most vulnerable and earnest.
A meditation on creative paralysis and personal growth, The Seams is both a critique of stagnancy and the beginning of a new artistic chapter. For the first time, James stepped away from the computer-centric process that defined his earlier work, instead writing with an acoustic guitar in his bedroom, patiently following riffs wherever they led.
The album includes singles "Morphine", "Lima" and "Bent," the latter a brazen declaration of insecurity that first hinted at the emotional terrain of The Seams. Emerging during an era defined by the internet's relentless demand for immediacy, Ivy's early EPs, Good Grief (2021) and Everything Perfect (2023), captured an artist discovering both his voice and identity in real time. His debut album finds that search crystallized into its clearest and most confident form yet. The Seams also follows Ivy's collaborative project with Roy Blair, American Road in New Jersey, released earlier this year.
