(Inside Out) Bloc Party release their new single 'Pigwig,' the final song to be lifted from their forthcoming album Anatomy Of A Brief Romance ahead of its release on 11 September on the newly formed record label Contagious Music in standard and limited edition vinyl, CD and digital formats.
Produced by the legendary Trevor Horn (Grace Jones, Pet Shop Boys, Frankie Goes To Hollywood), Anatomy Of A Brief Romance is a chronological portrait of frontman Kele Okereke's intoxicating love affair. The album's opening five song run is the sound of falling and falling hard. They are about "the moment I knew / that I'd been found", as Okereke sings on 'Pigwig'.
"'Pigwig' is about the moment of realising that you have been hit by a very big love," explains Okereke. "Almost as if it's against your will. During our relationship Pigwig was my pet name, after the Beatrix Potter character - the partner of Pigling Bland - an inside joke that meant a lot to us at the time. Looking back this song is probably one of the sweetest on the album as it recalls a memory of a romantic seaside trip at the most magical point of our relationship."
But soon enough, the mood turned, and doubts crept in, before eventually a catastrophe brought it all crashing down. What follows is heartbreak, the realisation that what they once had is gone, and finally, eventually, the healing begins.
