JoyFocus - Love Song Cliche
This track has all the earmarks of a big, rock power ballad. It opens with a thumping piano part and has the overall sonic feel of a Meatloaf song. However, Joy doesn't sing with quite the bombast Meatloaf does, as this man has never met an emotion he didn't treat like dialogue for a soap opera.
Rikk Currence is the brains and instrumental brawn behind this act. He is credited with writing, recording, engineering, mixing and producing this track, as well as playing all its instruments.
As music fans know, a catchy pop song can sometimes stick to you closer than a brother. This act sings about "spiritual struggles in a fashion that everyone can understand and relate to." Therefore, a case could be made that, perhaps, god is this song stuck in its character's head. God's love may well be visiting the mindset of the character much like a melody keeps running over and over in the psyche. It could happen, right?
Clichs sometimes get a bad rap. Certainly, most clichs state the obvious. However if there wasn't at least a grain of truth in them, they wouldn't be so darn popular. Love, whether it's spiritual or romantic, is a clich, simply because of all the songs written about it. After all, what can any person say about the subject of love that hasn't already been said before (and probably better) in a song?
This JoyFocus track is but a small taste of what the act can do, and leaves the listener wanting more. Intelligence, such as the sort expressed in this song, suggests there must be a whole lot more smarts where that came from.
