The Monks Of Mellowah's new Ghost Stories EP finds the group reaching for an unusual sonic juxtaposition. The title track begins by sounding like Bruno Mars-esque soul music, before ending with a guitar part worthy of Muse. The thumping rocker, "Vanity," which follows it, also includes some guitar work that wouldn't sound all that out of place on a Muse album.

However, the group breaks out of this Mars/Muse affiliation with "Sailing Stones," which closes its brief EP on soulful, classic rock inspired track that kind of brings Grand Funk Railroad to mind. It includes the line, "Insanity taking its toll," which makes one wonder what it might be about. The song's instrumental section also takes on a Middle Eastern music feel, which makes

At only three songs in length, this is but a tine bite from the Australian Monks Of Mellowah. However, it may be the quartet's most commercially realized recording today, which shows them well on their way to bigger and better things.
