Cold Blue Water
Although there are only five tracks on this release, every one of them is a winner. The horn-saturated instrumental, "Da Doodle," with its beautiful instrumental interplay may remind you of Tower Of Power in their heyday. "So High," in contrast, is a slow, tortured blues song that features an electric guitar solo comprised of long, painful notes. Cold Blue Water also engages in jam band music, which is best exemplified by the bottom-heavy funk of "Led Boots." "Blue Rain" is a nice, swinging blues instrumental that incorporates twin-harmonized guitars. For "Catfish Blooz," the act pits rumbling electric guitar vs. soulful organ for a Chicago blues-styled workout.
Great blues music is good for the soul. When it's played the right way, which is the way Cold Blue Water does it, it's like a good, satisfying meal. So eat hearty of Cold Blue Water, my friends.
