The Morning Birds - Bloom
After the singularly titled "Bloom," which is a bit of a dirge that mixes pretty female vocals with strange saxophone parts (among other elements), come five seasonally-titled tracks. "Fall Bloom" has a reggae-dub feel, while "Indian Sumer Bloom" includes elastic bass notes and bleep-y, computer-esque sounds. "Spring Bloom" incorporates what sounds like a poetic male rap. Both "Summer Bloom" and "Winter Bloom" are faster, more dance-y workouts than the rest. "Summer Bloom" is particularly beat heavy, whereas "Winder Bloom" has almost a disco groove underpinning it.
While most people will enjoy some of these mixes more than others, there's really never a dull moment. Each track tries something a little different and proves that variations on themes can be seemingly endless. Much like a mystery flower pot, every bloom here sprouts out just a little differently.
