Leslie Cours Mather - We Are America

When was the last time you said the Pledge of Allegiance? The oath will likely be stuck in your head as an earworm after hearing "We Are America," the catchy new single from Leslie Cours Mather in which she incorporates the pledge into the song's lyrics. There are no hidden meanings or cryptic lyrics to decipher here; this is a patriotic, love-of-country anthem, the likes of which haven't been heard since Lee Greenwood hit big with "God Bless the U.S.A." Unlike the somewhat somber tone of Greenwood's song though, "We Are America" is upbeat and soaring, as striking as a 4th of July fireworks show and as beautiful in its meaning as the Stars & Stripes fluttering proudly on a sunny day. Yes there is a message of unity here and yes that message is perfectly-suited to the times we are currently living in, and a military drumbeat placed in the song's fade-out reminds that the freedom enjoyed by Americans was hard-earned and is hard-maintained. Liberty and justice for all has never sounded as good as Mathers makes it sound here.
