Mental Fracture is an Israeli prog rock band, and its album Disaccord album is a sonically amazing song collection. The word disaccord is defined as the lack of agreement or harmony. Ironically, such can never be said of this nine-song release. For instance, the interplay between keyboards and electric guitar during one called "Summer Dies," mixes mad soloing with classical instrumental elements and lead singer Ori Mazuz's choir boy pure lead vocals. Thus, Disaccord finds these four musicians playing together in what can only be described as one accord.
As you might expect, many of these tracks are long - many times lasting over seven minutes. But never are these songs merely padded mindless noodling. Instead, the listener many times doesn't want these pieces to ever end. The album's title track sometimes alternates between dissonant electric guitar notes and sweet piano passages.
Prog-rock, at its worst, can come off pompous and pretentious. Not so here, though. Mental Fracture is a quartet of master musicians, which has created a highly skilled and pleasurable album. Discordant? Certainly not!
