Singled Out: Ayin Aleph's Crystal Ball

Ayin Aleph, who presents a unique blend of metal and other genres, is gearing up to release a new album next year and is giving fans a first taste with the new single "Crystal Ball". We asked her to tell us about the track. Here is the story:

If I can be completely honest, the theme here begins with Shakespeare's, Hamlet, Ophelia's decent into madness and an unrequited and immortal love. I began ruminating on this relationship of love and madness, and the idea of an immortal love came to me. I felt it! I felt a kind of love that can never be equaled, and I began to feel the tragedy and loneliness of it. I felt that I could never experience being loved in the way that I was feeling it. I suppose I would say that because this love is complete, there is no love that can meet it equally. As humans do, I applied this feeling to my own personal experiences and had to do something with all of the emotions that were pouring into me.

This is generally how my writing process works: I will tend to create or think about a character, and then become that character in my mind, letting their emotions enter into me, and then I begin the writing process. It is at times somewhat difficult going through all the agonies, pains, and the up's and down's of these characters, but I feel that they give the music an original and unique quality, and I love them for that.

So this was the beginning of Crystal Bell. From all of the emotions came the idea of a Black Phoenix, the black bird that you can see in several forms in the video - the pin up is a form of the black bird, the noble woman, girl in swimming pool and the girl in the red corset as well, morphing into the Red Phoenix destined to become new again. All of these beings are this one immortal love, "...my Crystal Bell," and their changing forms and senses of beauty that are reduced into villain or victim. Once all of this was turning like a hurricane within me, I sat at the piano and put pen to paper. Crystal Bell was born."

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the Ayin right here!
