Singled Out: Atlas Will Sound's August

Members of Atlas Will Sound tells us the story behind their single "August", which is one of the group's planned series of song releases this year. Here is the story:

First written as a journal entry a long time ago, Atlas Will Sound's guitarist turned the idea of "August" over to his lead singer in which came one of the most memorable, catchy rock songs the band has written thus far.

Johnny Bevilacqua (lead guitar): The words and instrumentals were written at two totally different times in my life. Though the diction of the words were changed a little by Than, I wrote down some thoughts one day in my bedroom as my little depressed-self couldn't sleep. You would be surprised at how creative ones mind can get during a lull. If nobody can figure it out yet, yes this song is about a girl. So, there sat a journal entry with no intention of ever becoming a song until about 3 years later when the words and melody meshed together too well to ignore. One night at the jam space, there came "August".

Than Morse (lead singer): We were jamming one night in summer 2015 having a few beers at the space when Johnny and I were trying to find some lyrics for what soon became "August". We had the guitar riff, the idea for drums, the beers, the scrap paper, the chicken wings and then the idea of converting the journal entry into the melody of the song. We hummed the chorus a few times at first, then we were immediately hooked and began working on it! It's a cool, groovy rock song reflective of a past relationship. This song could be a therapeutic release for many other people as well or even the reason for one to start head banging!

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
