Acclaimed blue rockers Jackie Venson just released a brand new single called "Flying" and to celebrate we asked her to tell us the story behind the new song. Here is the story:
I wrote the song "Flying" almost 2 years ago, time flies so quickly! My life tends to be somewhat of a roller coaster ride. Up and down, loop-de-loop, slowly climb the hill and then a sudden drop to the bottom. It has taken me years to adjust to this phenomenon but I have found myself in a place where I can handle it. However sometimes it can get the best of me and I have to turn to my original love for music to get through it.
I had won a competition online that landed me an all expense paid tour, free hotels, free flights and a brand new wardrobe. For a year in a row I was a true rock star, flying to different cities every other day and staying in fancy hotels before I head off to the gig and play. It was truly a dream because eventually it did come to an end. Once the tour ended, my contract ended and I was back home. This was so hard for me, I was happy to be home but I was also disappointed that the dream couldn't continue. I also was determined to make those opportunities for myself instead of just expecting them to be handed to me (even though they had been for an entire year).
Finally with the initial depression behind me, I had sparked a new fire. I am going to create these opportunities for myself, design them around the music that I write and then the dream will never end. To be honest I am still working at that however I get closer and closer every year and I remain very hopeful.
What's most important is that I don't ever take for granted where I am. No matter where one is in life there is definitely another person who would kill to be in ones place; this is why we must always be grateful even if we don't think we have it all. The point is that I get to do what I love and the challenge of reaching my goals keeps my fire burning. I am flying, spreading my wings, will you miss me when I'm gone?
