90 Percent Of Nirvana's 'Nevermind' Sound Due To Grohl Says Vig

(Radio.com) Producer and Garbage drummer Butch Vig opened up about working with Nirvana for their sophomore studio album Nevermind in late July, and he credits Dave Grohl with helping bring the band's sound together.

In a new interview with Ultimate Guitar, Vig said, "They called me at the 11th hour to go out to LA so I didn't really have any preproduction time." Having worked with the band a year prior before Grohl joined the band, he was familiar with how they operated. But things all changed with Grohl in the picture.

Vig credited Grohl, who he called "an incredible drummer." When it came to "Smells Like Teen Spirit," Grohl really blew him away. "I just kept pacing around the room and going, 'Oh, my god. This sounds f--' amazing.' Dave is an incredible musician. He really is. People always say, 'How'd you get that sound on Nevermind? and 90 percent of it is Dave Grohl. It's just how Dave plays and he's just so, so powerful." Read more here.
