Singled Out: Brett Wiscons' Until I Think About You

Brett Wiscons releases his new album "The Heineken Sessions - Deluxe" this week (Oct 28th) and to celebrate we asked him to tell us about the song "Until I Think About You". Here is the story:

It was coming up on the anniversary of my dad's passing and this song just kind of spilled out of me. I wasn't really thinking about writing a song about him or memories we shared, it just kind of happened that way.

The title is so true to how I felt at the time I penned the song. It had been almost four years (now five) since he passed, so I'd gone through the five stages of grief, but I still needed closure. It's weird - I really didn't miss him until I would think about him. Sometimes that would be one hundred times a day, though. If you've ever lost a parent or someone close to you, I'm sure you can relate. I don't think I'll ever have total closure, but writing this song helped me get closer to closure.

In the studio, we really captured the mood. Just me on guitar and vocals, my friend Anne Balbo on distant, angelic harmonies, Hank Futch played his upright bass with a bow, and my producer Mark Bryan added the Wurlitzer. I love how it all came out. That opening line about "running up and down the street, catching the leaves as they fall..." (which really happened in the autumn) sets the song down a bittersweet memory lane for me, but it's a fitting tribute to my dad, Barry. I think he would've dug the song, too.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
