(Radio.com) Coldplay have wrapped the final, Australasian leg of their Head Full of Dreams world tour just in time for the holidays, and they planned a special send-off for the finale in Sydney.
The band wrote a simple holiday tune called "Christmas with the Kangaroos," unpacking the Southern hemisphere phenomenon of Christmas in summertime. The song is crowded with references to Australian icons like Kylie Minogue and the Tim Tam biscuit.
"And what about poor Santa's sleigh?" Martin sings. "He has to come from fing miles away And what about Mick Dundee? Well he ain't got no Christmas tree."
The chorus is a little inane, but it seems to have been written on the fly so it's hardly "Wonderful Christmastime." In any case, Coldplay won't take themselves too seriously about their very niche Australian Christmas song:
'Well they say Christmas here is much more fun/ We got surfing, we got sun/ Christmas here is sweet as a peach/ Open presents on the beach/ We've got barbies, we've got beer, Santa wishes he lives here/ Loads of laughter, loads of booze/ Christmas with the kangaroos," Martin sings.
