Metallica's new album "Hardwired � To Self-Destruct" not only debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. charts it has also scored the most first week sales for any rock album release in two and half years.
The legendary metal band's 10th studio album entered the Billboard Top 200 album chart at No. 1 after selling 281,645 copies during its first week of release. The total metric when including non-actual sales like streaming, etc was 291,266.
"Hardwired...To Self Destruct" also became the third largest chart debut of the year behind Drake's Views (852,000 in actual sales) and Beyonce's Lemonade (485,000 sales).
The album also topped the charts across the globe including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, and Sweden.
This was Metallica's sixth chart topping release in the United States beginning with their blockbuster "Black" album back in 1991. Their previous effort "Death Magnetic" sold almost half a million copies upon its release in 2008.
