(Radio.com) When Long Islanders head to see a Billy Joel cover band, they likely keep expectations low: decent food, better-than-average piano playing, a voice that can adequately carry Joel's melodies.
What they probably don't expect is for the Piano Man himself to take the stage. But that's exactly what happened June 24 in Huntington, New York, on Joel's beloved Long Island.
The icon's set featured "You May be Right" and covers of songs by the Rolling Stones, the Beatles (via Joe Cocker) and Led Zeppelin. Joel shared the stage with Big Shot, a band that has long idolized and devoted their musical careers to bringing Joel's hits to life.
As shocked as the audience was, the surprise might not have been all that surprising to Joel obsessives. Guitarist and singer Mike DelGuidice, guitarist Tommy Byrnes and drummer Chuck Burgi are all members of Joel's touring group and are currently working as part of the backing band for his Madison Square Garden shows.
