(Gibson) With the Rolling Stones' Blue & Lonesome album set to hit stores on Dec. 2, some folks are remembering that Mick Jagger nearly released a similarly conceived album of blues standards nearly 25 years ago.
As reported by Ultimate Classic Rock, Jagger spent a single day in the studio in June 1992 with the L.A. band the Red Devils, running through more than a dozen of his favorite blues numbers.
"He said, 'Okay, guys, these are my favorite records,'" says bassist Johnny Ray Bartel. "'I'm gonna play 'em once for you, and then we're all gonna jam along to the original versions. And then we're gonna record it.' Basically what he wanted was the ultimate spontaneity and not a whole lot of rehearsing at all, and just nail it down really quick and let's see what we get."
The project was ultimately shelved, with Jagger opting to focus on the more conventionally made solo album, Wandering Spirit. Through the years, however, most of the material on the "lost" blues record has been leaked. Read more here.
