The Original Soul Men: Sam and Dave Documentary Coming to DVD
reports: Featuring 21 outstanding live performances, including their 1967 Grammy-winning classic song "Soul Man," and new and vintage interviews, the two-hour DVD documentary The Original Soul Men: Sam and Dave (Hip-O/UMe), released in the United States, December 9, 2008, tells the story of the greatest, most successful "soul duo" of all time, SAM & DAVE.

Sam Moore and Dave Prater Jr. had a major impact as one of the most successful "cross over" acts of their era influencing everyone from the Beatles and the Rolling Stones to Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi and, of course, the Blues Brothers. The impact of their unique sound and style continues to do so today. The Blues Brothers' classic 1978 Saturday Night Live rendition of "Soul Man" and the duo's own version on that show in 1980 are among the DVD's highlights.

Many of Sam and Dave's performances were culled from their mid-60s appearances on European television, plus there is extremely rare footage only seen on the original broadcasts of The Mike Douglas Show and Hollywood Palaceappearances which have never before been released on home video or available for viewing. Each performance has been remastered from the original tapes (some untouched in vaults for 40 years). For the two lip-synched TV performances, the original multi-track masters replaced the original broadcast audio. - more on this story

Susan Tedeschi Goes Back To The River
PR reports: 'Back To The River,' (Oct. 28, Verve Forecast), the new release by Grammy nominated vocalist/guitarist Susan Tedeschi features collaborations with a bevy of roots rock royalty. Susan's earlier releases featured a limited number of original songs but on her new record she co-wrote on all but one of the 11 tracks.

The record features writing credits by everyone from the legendary Tony Joe White to up and coming singer songwriter Sonya Kitchell, from songwriter/producer John Leventhal to Gary Louris of the Jayhawks. Susan worked with each of these artists in person rather than the now common practice of collaborating remotely.

In Nashville Susan visited Tony Joe White where they wrote together in his studio, a converted civil war hospital on the outskirts of the city limits. Tony Joe asked Susan to tell him about her life and she said "I feel like I am constantly trying to get home and back to the river and back to my family." Susan lives on the St. John's River in Jacksonville, FL with her husband Derek Trucks and their two children. Tony Joe suggested she write about that and "Back To The River," the album's title track was born. - more on this story

Guy McCoy Torme Soph
Glass Onion reports: The follow up to Guy McCoy Torme's (GMT) acclaimed debut 'Bitter & Twisted' would be a daunting task to some, however GMT (featuring lunatic guitarist and frontman Bernie Torme, larger and louder than life bassist John McCoy and Hero in his own Lunchbox drummer Robin Guy) are no ordinary band.

'Evil Twin' (available November 17, 2008 in the UK) is no ordinary 'second record' - packing a massive punch with raucous opener "Punko Rocco" (featuring Twisted Sister's Dee Snider!), it takes you on a sonic journey straight into the title track - involving ragga beats & tabla percussion before it smashes you in the guts with the lyric "You trouble trouble before trouble troubles you..."

GMT prove that with a basic 3-piece band, you can still do unheard of things - one minute it's a white-knuckle rollercoaster ride, with Robin doing his best 'Keith Moon' on "You Can't Hold Me", then next stop is an epic blues-based tale ("Perfumed Garden") invoking the Dartford Tunnel... There's even an ode to bassist John McCoy closing the album in true sing-a-long style - GMT prove they have the songs, style and humor. - more on this story

The Boy Will Drown Begin Work on Earache CD
Earache reports: British technical metallers The Boy Will Drown are currently in the studio recording their first ever album.

The band, who recently signed a multi-album, worldwide recording deal with Earache Records, are following in the footsteps of their idols Decapitated, having entered Hertz Studios in Bialystok, Poland to record their as-yet untitled debut album.

The band comments: "Drums are all done, just a small bit of editing left to do. They're faster and played harder than in the MySpace tracks prior. The sound that the Hertz bros. have got is incredible. Doesn't stop there!!! On the 4th guitar track now and we've also laid down some vocals. - more on this story

. AC/DC Live
AC/DC, aside from the Ramones, may be the most pure and primordial rock n' roll band the planet has ever seen. Their model is simple, yet inspired- four chords and the truth. They've never wavered from their simplistic blues based bad-ass riffs (5 stars) - Read the full AC/DC Live review

. In this Moment - The Dream
When I first popped in the album by In this Moment, I was prepared for a metalcore raucous punch in the visceral gut. What welcomed me were 11 tracks of mature, controlled, lyrical, almost dreamlike vocals wrapped up in a warm glow of pain. (4 stars) - Read the full In this Moment - The Dream review
