A father declaring his love. A son saying goodbye. Charles Wesley Godwin takes listeners through a gamut of emotions on "Hey There Son". Featuring Wyatt Flores and co-written with Lori McKenna, the song is a cornerstone of Godwin's upcoming album Christian Name, out July 24th via Big Loud Records.

"I started writing 'Hey There Son' in 2019, around the time my first son was born," explains Godwin. "I'm a huge fan of Lori McKenna, and always felt like she'd be the perfect person to help me finish it. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to bring it to her in 2024, and we knocked it out in an afternoon. I don't think there was a dry eye in the room by the time we finished." (continue)


The Dead South dig into indie folk canon with "Rox in the Box," a new cover. A return to themes of peril and struggle, the song retells the harrowing details of the century-old Granite Mountain/Speculator Mine disaster. In subject and sound, their gritty, gothic take on The Decemberists' song recalls their own "Black Lung," which also explores the grime and strife of hard labour.

The Dead South are currently on tour in the USA, playing large outdoor shows and amphitheatres from the Pacific Northwest to the Midwest, with stops at Denver's Mission Ballroom, Eau Claire's Blue Ox Music Festival and major Canadian festivals as well. (continue)


Breakout vocalist, songwriter and musician Willow Avalon continues a landmark year with her new single, "Work To Do". "I wrote 'Work To Do' about a man who never said sorry, and had a wholeeee lot of work to do on himself," Avalon shares.
