Eighteen
Visions - Obsession
Eighteen Visions 2004, Obsession, is one of the more recent offerings from Trustkill Records. To get an idea of this bands sound, imagine that Good Charlotte walked through the mall one day and decided to sound more like the Deftones. Although loud guitars and screaming make this record semi-tolerable in a Hot Topic kind of way, this mall-metal band never rocks out too hard before reminding you that the Bon Marche sits right around the corner. On the bright side, the band does branch out with some inventive song structures on this record, and although they spend very little time kicking ass, their use of melody and harmony show that they are at least musically competent. Stylistically, when the band does choose to throw down, anything remotely heavy is offset by crappy punk/pop beats and that damned high pitched, whiny voice that so many nu-metal bands think people want to hear. Eighteen Visions brand of emo/pop-metal maybe satisfying to a 13-year-old goth-kid sipping a high priced latte, but to any self respecting member of the hard-core community, it is almost offensive that Trustkill Records would try to sell us something like this. Fans of real metal need not waste time
or money on this record, but if you have a younger, less discriminating
relative who likes to shop at Hot Topic, shoot me an e-mail. Ill
give you my copy for free.
