The project features material recorded by Gilmour, Mason and keyboardist Rick Wright during sessions for 1994's "The Division Bell", and serves as the band's tribute to Wright, who died from cancer in 2008 at the age of 65. "I think on this record, there's an element of homage and a recognition of Rick," explains Mason. "It's perhaps making up for lack of recognition prior to this. He's always perhaps been the unsung hero." "We could not have made this record 20 years ago. It would have been impossible," adds Gilmour.
