Groundhog Day Coming To Broadway

(Radio.com) It appears that 2017 will be the year of the groundhog on Broadway, when an adaptation of the classic comedy film Groundhog Day will open as a musical.

The 1993 film was about a TV weatherman (Bill Murray) who awoke every morning to the same situation: covering the annual Groundhog Day festivities in Punxsutawney, Pa.

The musical's book was written by Danny Rubin, who cowrote the film's screenplay with director Harold Ramis. Much of the rest of the team behind the musical were also responsible for the staging on Matilda, based on Roald Dahl's book of the same name, which has grossed $117M so far on Broadway.
