. "This is for you, Dave," said Waits as he introduced the song, on which he was accompanied by an accordionist and upright bassist. "I don't know when I will see Dave again," said Waits after the show. "I guess from now on we'll have to settle for bumping into each other at pilates." The singer's appearance comes in the final week of broadcasts by Letterman, who will deliver his farewell program on Wednesday, May 20 after more than three decades in late night.
