My first impression of Eldon Max came from laughing at the title of this CD. The title lets you in on the fact that you are in for something a little off the beaten rock path. Enough about the title, let's talk about the music!
The CD starts out with something rarely heard these days; a smokin' lead guitar. The background music follows a more industrial recipe with it's pounding drum beats. Then the vocals kick in with a heavy Marilyn Manson feel. Good Quality stuff, but the best thing here is the lead guitar, which goes from some tasty licks to a feedback frenzy.
Track two, "It's Snot, Because of You" totally switches directions and delivers a slow moving acoustic ballad with Eldon's voice telling a twisted tale of lost love. Eldon's whispering vocal style here is reminiscent of Marilyn Manson's cover of "Suicide is Painless" or Prince's "Snows in April".
"Happy Dog" - a heavy industrial number get things moving again and "Empty Brain" has an almost punk feel to it.
Overall, Eldon Max is an interesting group
of artists whose eclectic-industrial style should put them on the map.
Fans of Manson will find lots to love here. Eldon Max does not have a website yet, but you can email the band for more info or ordering information at [email protected]
