Floyd
Charity |
siN's metal news reports: PINK FLOYD guitarist
David Gilmour has urged artists and record companies to make a charitable
donation off the back of Saturday's landmark global concerts.
"Though the main objective has been to
raise consciousness and put pressure on the G8 leaders, I will not profit
from the concert," he said in a statement. "This is money that should be
used to save lives."
"If other artists feel like donating their
extra royalties to charity, perhaps then the record companies could be
persuaded to make a similar gesture and that would be a bonus." [see full

Extol
Destruction |
Century Media reports: Century Media Records
are pleased to be able to confirm that Norwegian metallers EXTOL are set
to headline this years Destruction Festival on Saturday 23rd July at the
Camden Underworld. This one-off appearance will be the bands first return
to the UK since their blistering tour with God Forbid in March of this
year, when they performed new material from their critically acclaimed
The Blueprint Dives album.
The Destruction Fest, run by the Glorious
Undead Christian Church originally began life as a Hardcore Christian Festival
but now in its fourth year, its main purpose is to bring together the
cream of local and international bands, regardless of their personal religious
beliefs to Camden Town - the heart of London's alternative culture, for
a two day hardcore and metal festival and this year promises to be bigger,
better and give you more punch for your pound with more bands than ever
before and an all-dayer on Saturday, with any profits being donated to
North London Action for the Homeless.[see full story for more]-

Sevendust
Records |
Chipster reports: Sevendust is teaming up
with innovative record label WineDark Records which is distributed in the
U.S. by Fontana Distribution, a division of Universal Music and Video Distribution
(UMVD), for the upcoming release of their latest record, Next. Sevendust
is the Atlanta, GA-based rock group who clawed their way through the late
1990s and early 2000s with a string of hit albums, forming the backbone
of a sound and attitude that defies genre classification. Beginning with
their 1997 self-titled debut and continuing through to their most recent
record, Seasons, Sevendust, despite a self described roller coaster ride,
has sold nearly four million units in the US alone and is poised to expand
its domain to the rest of the world.
Sevendusts fifth record, Next, will be
available on October 11th, 2005.

Bono
Challange |
Reader Submission reports: A Los Angeles-based
singer/songwriter who donates ten cents each time her group's music is
downloaded has challenged Bono to give one dime from each U2 download to
Africa.
"In November of 2001 you came here to Los
Angeles on tour, and from the stage you challenged us in Hollywood to come
up with innovative ways to begin solving some of the enormous problems
our world faces. You reminded us that our ideas are spun out to the entire
world through the mass media we so dominate. And although I know you were
talking to the audience in general that night, I took what you said to
heart and have thought about it a great deal. I know that youre not the
'King of the Music Business,' though you might enjoy thinking yourself
so from time to time. But you are one of the industrys most iconic and
influential figures. And that Bono, is precisely why Ive decided to make
this appeal to you. You, with your celebrity friends, acquaintances and
associates, have the power to make benevolence, compassion and generosity
part of the transaction when music is legally downloaded. You and I share
a deep love and respect for the late John Lennon, who asked us to 'Imagine.'
Im much more practical and pragmatic. Its 2005 and while 'imagining'
is a great start, we need to take things to the next level." See full story
