The experience inspired the track Another Day To Die from the band's 17th album White Devil Armory, released last month. Ellsworth tells RockSverige: "I cancelled a show in Hamburg and ended up in hospital with borderline pneumonia - and a guy there told me I had six months.
"I sat up all night. I remember going through my computer wondering, 'Who do I owe money to? Who owes me?' It was a f***ing awful 12 hours. I wasn't expecting that - and I never expected it to come as news to me in broken English. Next day the woman in charge says, 'No, you have to change your habits or in six months or you'll be in another hospital.'"

The news comes before the launch of his sixth solo album, Space Invader, later this month. That project has been several years in the making, but Frehley believes the follow-up will be easy to make.
He tells Arena.com: "I get suggestions, I come up with ideas, and I ask friends and associated about which songs to do. They're already written so it's faster and easier. I don't have much to do - the big stress is coming up with new guitar solos, vocal lines and melodies on new songs."

It follows his short appearance with students at Miami Country Day School, where he led them through In The Air Tonight and Land Of Confusion. Collins' announcement will fuel speculation that he's planning a fully-fledged comeback.
He retired after releasing a covers album in 2010, but last year admitted he wanted to go back into action. In June his bassist Lee Sklar revealed his boss had arranged three weeks of "exploratory rehearsals" although no further plans had been made.

This week they launched a video for The Negative One, the first track to appear from the follow-up to 2008's All Hope Is Gone. Speculation has been ramped up since then, with those in the frame including Lamb Of God's Chris Adler and Jay Wienberg, son of Bruce Springsteen's sticksman Max.
"We're keeping a lot of that under wraps, out of fairness, because we want the music to speak for itself," Taylor says. "We don't want people listening to our music and making up their minds about something before they even know what the music is. So trust me, you know, when the time is right, we will give you the answers that you need, and that's the way it is."

A first-person shooter, no less: picture yourself looking down the barrel of a futuristic assault rifle and going absolutely nuts with the headshots while listening to the soothing voice - or, perhaps, at least the bass - of the man who once sang, "take these broken wings and learn to fly."
McCartney has reportedly been working on the score since 2010. He also wrote the game's theme song, recorded by 120-strong orchestra, which will be released as a single on Sept. 9.

The creature's names sparked a project to deliver a metal song, with At The Gates frontman Tomas Lindberg teaming up with American band Invertia on the track Deep Time Predator.
German act Seetyca also worked on the track, which features lyrics composed by Eriksson, based on a scientific paper he wrote about the fossil. It tells the story from the creature's point of view. He'd hoped King Diamond himself to appear on the track, but yhe singer wasn't available.

Drummer Tomas Haake says: "The 21-minute madness that is the song I is something we've always been extremely proud of. It wasn't written in the normal sense, but recorded without anything more than guidelines as to what style we wanted each part to have."
But there's not much chance of Meshuggah playing it live. "We often get the question," Haake says. "I'm sure it could be done with a lot of listening and hard work - but it's really too unstructured. It would take too much time and effort to make sense."

The album is the follow-up to 2011's Carnival Is Forever. Guitarist Waclaw Kieltyka says: "Extreme and groove - I think that's the best way to describe our new album. This time we feel that we have something totally crushing and huge.
"Blood Mantra is the most heavy and mature album we ever did in our career. I cannot wait to start to play the songs live because riffs are so deep and powerful."

The thrash veterans start recording sessions later this year, with Exodus man Gary Holt in place of Hanneman, who died last year of alcohol-related health issues.
And King believes the response to standalone track Implode, launched earlier this year, should offer hope to doubtful followers. He tells Arte Concert: "I know people are going to expect us to fail, because it's the first record without Jeff. I get it. But I'm also very proud of what we've done so far towards new material.
"It's fast and the slow stuff's heavy. Everything people liked Slayer for in the past is on this record." More including a stream of the new track

Corgan reports: "My next planned release will be the start of a multi-volume collection of home demos from 1985 to 1990 - which, if those who work for me can be believed, has more than 800 titles to consider.
"These works are all over the place in terms of quality, as I was just a kid of 18 when I started making my own recordings. Not only do my influences show a little too hard in places, but so do my inadequacies as a sound engineer."

But the Winery Dogs, Transatlantic and Flying Colors drummer won't appear on the UK leg of their trek in mid-November. Bigelf mainman Damon Fox last year credited Portnoy with keeping the band alive after it had suffered internal crisis in 2010.
He said: "I had been keeping in touch with Mike after his difficult departure from Dream Theater. My musical future seemed bleak and I was very vocal to him about not being able to sustain the band any longer.
"He implored me to carry on. I asked him if he would help fight the good fight, and he readily agreed."

Guitarist Olof Morck says: "We have lived and breathed this album every hour and every day the last year, and to know that this music is about to reach everyone's ears is beyond exciting.
"Following the first leg of The Nexus world tour, we sat down and agreed that we wanted the next album to be really fresh, new and even to raise a few eyebrows, all while retaining our signature sound.

And he is predicting things will get funky on the follow-up. Munky tells Horns Up Rocks: "It feels like a good place for us to be, with the organic way of writing and then including some of those techniques, with the tools of recording that are available to everybody now on their laptop.
"It's gonna be interesting to see what we do on the next record. I kind of feel like it's gonna lean towards a bit more funk - so it's a little more funk metal." More from Munky

His connection continues to this day as he's co-producing upcoming Floyd record The Endless River. Jackson's label describe Signal To Noise as "a fine modern progressive work, drawing on his exemplary career."
He says: "The album reflects on the sorting of what's important in life from the humdrum of everyday existence - and it's an analogy for the process of the creation of the album itself."

Film synopsis: "Just before Christmas, 1985, 19-year-old James Vance watched his best friend Ray Belknap shoot himself to death with a .12 gauge shotgun in a churchyard outside Reno, Nevada. Then Vance pulled the trigger on himself. He survived but was severely disfigured. Vance later claimed his actions had been influenced by the heavy metal music of Judas Priest, prompting his family to sue the band. The drama of the ensuing trial provides the framework for David Van Taylor's disturbing look at teenagers today."
According to the Center For Media And Social Impact (CMSI), the delay in releasing "Dream Deceivers" was due to "a copyright nightmare" due to the music and lyrics of Judas Priest appearing throughout the film. Van Taylor, conforming to the "clearance culture" of the era, diligently sought the rights from Sony to it all.
"We cleared things that, even then, we shouldn't have," said Van Taylor. "People reciting lyrics in the court room, snippets of songs being played backward--everything."

Frontman Dee Snider is proud that the result isn't just a "piece of propaganda." He says: "This is independently done, which is the way a documentary of this kind should be. It's for people who are original fans, hardcore fans, true fans - or want to know more about this band."
Horn adds: "Twisted were the Grand Funk of glam and the New York Dolls of metal - channeling youthful fury and a wicked sense of humor into blue-collar performance art, attracting audiences of up to 2-5000 a night. It was both a great living and a dead end, offering no future outside the suburban enclave."

The German axeman believes he has a unique approach to the creative process. He says: "I'm a gut player - I just play what I feel. I'm not somebody who sits down and practices all day long, and waits for a nice melody to come his way.
"I do the opposite. I sit and think, 'What could the song really need?' as if it was a vocal idea, then I work it out that way. I sing it to myself first, then teach myself how to play it."
Hoffman also discusses some of the artists who influenced him, name checking Ritchie Blackmore and describing Uli Jon Roth as "probably the best of them all."

Ama Quinsee (vocals) - Some of the lyrics included in "Illicit Love" were written 10 years ago when I was fresh out of high school and deep into a spiritual phase of my life where I discovered meditation, spirituality and sanctuary. It was a song titled "All Illusions;" I was very "green" back in those days, and extremely trusting about the world. The remaining lyrics were inspired from an experience I had years later with astral projection, which is an interpretation of out-of-body experience where the astral body separates from the physical body. Some believe in it and some don't, but I am a firm believer and this is ultimately the focus of "Illicit Love."
I had my first out of body experience at a friend's house whilst jamming, it was very sudden and also very frightening. I had slipped out of my physical body and was looking back at it; this is the inspiration behind the lyrics "I'm in a peaceful disposition, I'm on the outside looking in". What I believe happened was my soul had escaped my body and I could see my physical form. As I was completely unprepared for an experience of this nature, I started to hyperventilate and my friends gave me a bag to help slow down my breathing and calm me. Eventually I felt my soul return to my physical form and crawl back into my body. After this I had a spiritual awakening like no other and have considered this to be close to a near death experience. I'm not superstitious but there is no doubt in my mind now that when we die our souls do transcend from our bodies to another place and I believe I felt it that day. Experiencing astral projection first hand I thought I would write a song about it after being so moved, and some of my lyrics from 10 years ago were also included due to the spiritual nature of the song. Some people still think I'm crazy when I talk of this story but it's one I'll never forget. I just knew as soon as the girls showed me that first riff that these lyrics would be the perfect fit.
Kylie Soanes (drummer) - I came up with the song's verse riff and bridge 3 years ago. The initial riff that you hear was stuck in my head for ages, and so I worked out the structure on guitar. I am not a great guitarist, so it didn't sound as polished as you hear it now. I showed Laura (guitar) what I had come up with and we continued to work on it for a few weeks and she came up with the powerful chorus riff. The song is very guitar driven, so we constructed the bridge with a breakdown that showcases our bass player Abby and gives her some room to solo. We are all really influenced by 70's rock, and that loose feel - bands like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith and the Stones. That's what we were going for in this song.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you watch the video here, learn more about the band here and get a copy of the EP on iTunes
