The band reformed in 2005 as a quintet, having added guitarist Scottie Henry from the metal outfit Norma Jean and Dan Tulloh from the shock rocking Scarlet into their ranks. This new incarnation of the group is definitely the most menacing version yet. Musically, the modern day SPITFIRE plays a hybrid of metal and hardcore that is comparable to bands such as Every Time I Die, The Melvins and even Voivod, as well as the speedy punk rock of Hotnakes.
Recorded and engineered at Virginias Red Planet Studios by Andreas Magnusson (Black Dahlia Murder, Hot Cross, Scarlet) and mastered by Alan Douches (you name it, he does it) at West West Side, Self-Help marks a dramatic improvement in the bands style and sound. This is the most confident, concise SPITFIRE album to date. Fans of frantic, chaotic, technical metalcore should check out this underrated and under-appreciated band when their return album Self-Help is released on 28 February 2006.
